Looks like Thushar might have an ace up his sleeve. I like that guy and his attitude. That is of course in addition to his singing. It will be interesting if Thushar scores higher than the rest at this juncture and provide some kind of a competition for King Najim.

I guess yesterday will be a special day in my musical appreciation history. I have always heard that music has an enchanting quality and when it is renditioned at a supernatural level it will transport us to a different world. Yesterday I think Tushar is absolutely right when he said that at some point - it was not really him - there was the presence of a divinity there - and the voice just came out - quite an experience to me even though I was watching on TV so far away !! And he made a 96 - I guess everyone knows when they have been touched !!!
I am very sure that Najim will not be able to top Tushar's performance - at the end of the day being able to perform like that in front of millions of people - at least one time - is better than the house , car and pretty much anything else - No matter what happens next - Tushar will have a special place in the lives of many music enthusiasts - that was the day when they say what is " perfect rendition " and its effects !!!! Unfortunately Durga - though her performance was brilliant - had some issues. Hope she gets through !! But the night belongs to TUSHAR - and all of us who saw it !!! I will now give Tushar the "WHAT AN IDEA " AWARD ! - it was held previously by Amrutha after a rendition before !!!! This award just comes like this - no house or car or pretty much anything else - my appreciation !!!! |

I think yesterday was interesting. But I too feel that since Tushar gave such a power ful performance - everyone else will suffer from the overhang - the world has heard a powerful and classic performance - everything else will be judged against that !!!
Arun did sound nice !! I wonder who will be dropped at the end of this round - Durga has to do something brilliant soon - it is overdue !!! |

This is a truely interesting day.
I understand that the TV portion of ISS Star Singer is finished - or so I think. I liked Hisham's ending note - it was upbeat, good and shows what has been achieved at ISS. The question is what next - so who got the house ? But on a closer inspection - maybe that does not really matter. That most probably was the last thing on these people want. I think the acknowledgement that they are the final 6 - a chance to show who they are and what they can do and most importantly a chance for us to know them on a global basis - is the reward. Anything else is extra and always welcome !!! So who do I think is the best - actually I think they are all good singers but they all have one problem. They cannot be good at everything. Thus in their efforts we see the diversity of songs in India - it is so diverse that no one singer can be called the best - each has a strength but not is good at everything. That is the message to all of us - the vast ocean - the SONG and SINGING - cannot be conquered by any one person - it will always be that ocean where each singer reaches some point where they are comfortable - but the points they reach are all important and nothing is more important than the other. In the commercial world - we give rewards. But our rewards are not the end in itself - it should not be given in the spirit that one is better than the other - it is given in the spirit that a singer or a song has touched us - In that respect SANNI is the winner. Technically someone has touched us - that is most probably TUSHAR. In spirit of singing DURGA takes the price - in elegance and beauty - AMRUTHA takes the cake - in the area of consistency in rendition across various types of songs - That belongs to NAJIM - in terms of overachieving at a young age - that goes to Hisham - With this final tribute - this writer signs off - I hope all of you had a good time - next contest will be even more fun - that is my prayer !!!!! |

Oh yes the show was/is a grand success, but success has different meanings for different people. Will the show be really successful in finding the true winner (whatever the parameters are) without being transparent in its methodology, is a question that needs to be answered by the people who run it. With 10% of the marks being swung by SMS, and that SMS count being held close to the producer's chest (FOR OBVIOUS reasons)is something that gives its credibility a kick in the butt. It was good viewing/listening, but undoubtedly this show will also go the KBC way, nothing can sustain the interest of any audience beyond a certain point. We Mallu's can be proud of the fact that we created something that was a conversation piece in many drawing rooms outside our Kochu Keralam!

How the rest will do actually now translates to who gets the flat and who gets the car.
All are winners. However next time around, I hope they will tell the SMSing audience exactly what percentage of the votes go towards the actual final mark in each round before the round starts.
Good Day my friends

“And the winner is Najim Arshad" When the Legend Dr. Balamuralikrishna mouthed those words, scores of Music lovers were up on their feet shedding tears like their favourite contestant. A fitting Grand Finale to a Grand Event that caught the imagination of millions of Indians not just in India but around the world!! And what better result after a grueling session, which almost lasted for one year, testing each contestant's Endurance, Consistency and Skills, can it give to our Music Industry. Najim Arshad....the endearing candidate who became the darling of those millions of Indians by his prowess in singing, refreshing voice and appealing personality. When the one and only candidate who got a standing ovation for his 'Ghazal round, finished the 'sangathy' filled song "Soona Soona" in the Mega Finals', everybody knew who deserved to conquer the music industry with the title IDEA STAR SINGER. The Star Singer who displayed his wide range by excelling in all genre of music whether it is Ghazal, Romantic, Sad, Melody, Classical and in different languages like Hindi, Tamil, Telugu apart from Malayalam. Najim Arshad always stood out not just in the minds of viewers (which resulted in his first playback singing!!) but also all the eminent judges Like MSV who said "Shruthi Shudam….Thalam Very good….You have good foundation" or exclamations by Vidyadharan master " Bravo" and cinestar Ganesh " What a Voice!!!" He enthralled ALL…" But an account on Najim Arshad will not be complete without mentioning " What a Gentleman" to quote Usha Didi!! It is not just Najim Arshad the singer who captivated people but equally so Najim Arshad the Person. His humility, his devotion to his parents, teachers and people who helped him to reach where he is, is always reflected in his eyes and his actions….and that is his victory…of Najim Arshad the Human being!! And that is what we saw yesterday when those 1,87,000 odd SMS that poured in for him….. More than anything, it suggested his supremacy and appeal among all cross sections of people. This support was evident from the first day when he sang that Sudhamantram to yesterday's Soona Soona and Naadha Brahmathin and it seems to remain same for years to come!! As the people shouted "Najim Najim" whenever asked who should be the Idea Star Singer, Najim was very poised and composed accepting all that and the trophy from the one and only Dr. Balamuralikrishna with his personified humility and tears!! WHAT A MOMENT…..it felt like each and every person rejoiced that victory and felt a part of it, not surprising after all he was there in our drawing rooms and hearts for more than a year….For a nascent(new)comer in the playback singing industry with just one song, BUT who has been named favourite singer along with Yesudas & Chitra as we search the internet………this was a fitting feather in his cap…..and for us the listeners it was a Heartening Journey which we will remember for years to come… Vidya V Cyberdine Creative Thoughts vidyaask @g mail. com |

Read Mathew's reaction for the comment below at http://www.simplymalayalees.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=465&PID=1340#1340
"A voting age is a minimum age established by law that a person must attain in order to be eligible to vote in a public election.
The vast majority of countries in the world have established a voting age. The main reason given for its imposition is that those of an age lower than the chosen threshold lack the necessary capacity to independently decide how to cast a vote. The voting age is often of such importance that it is set by means of a constitutional provision." |
